ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. The focus of the meeting was on enhancing UAE-Jordan relations and exploring avenues for increased bilateral collaboration. The leaders also examined recent regional developments and other shared concerns, emphasizing ongoing dialogue on regional security, stability, and enduring peace. King Abdullah’s visit to the UAE included participation by a senior Jordanian delegation.

UAE and Jordan leaders review ties and regional issues
UAE-Jordan talks focus on bilateral ties, trade cooperation and regional issues.

During the discussions, cooperation across economic, trade, and development sectors under the UAE-Jordan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement was reviewed. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah reiterated their dedication to strengthening ties in areas aligned with national growth priorities. They also explored methods to expand collaboration in accordance with mutual interests. The two nations maintain extensive political and economic relationships, supported by regular high-level consultations. Their latest meeting underscored the importance of bilateral development and regional coordination being on the same agenda.

King Abdullah arrived in Abu Dhabi accompanied by Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. Sheikh Mohamed personally welcomed the Jordanian king upon his arrival. Senior officials from the UAE, including Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also participated in the talks. Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended as well, reflecting the broad scope of issues discussed during the visit.

Economic cooperation deepens through UAE-Jordan partnership

The main vehicle for expanding economic ties is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, signed on October 6, 2024, and effective from May 15, 2025. It marked the UAE’s first comprehensive economic agreement with an Arab nation. The treaty allows for trade liberalization on more than 98% of tariff lines and covers sectors such as services, investment, digital trade, customs cooperation, and support for small and medium-sized businesses.

The accord also grants preferential treatment to goods that comply with applicable rules of origin and technical standards, covering over 99.5% of the total value of UAE exports to Jordan. It introduces mechanisms to facilitate customs procedures and enhance investment cooperation, alongside establishing committees and focal points to ensure effective implementation. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah emphasized the significance of economic, trade, and development collaboration as key avenues for further strengthening UAE-Jordan relations.

Focus on regional stability and security remains paramount

Regional issues played a central role in the Abu Dhabi discussions. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah shared perspectives on regional challenges affecting the Middle East and broader stability. Both leaders underlined the necessity of sustained coordination between the UAE and Jordan, linking this cooperation to efforts aimed at bolstering security and regional stability. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives geared towards achieving lasting peace, concentrating on shared regional concerns.

Later Sunday, King Abdullah left the UAE following the conclusion of talks. Sheikh Mohamed was on hand to bid farewell to the Jordanian monarch, alongside senior UAE officials. The visit continues the pattern of regular engagement between the two leaders on bilateral and regional issues. Their meeting in Abu Dhabi combined discussions on economic collaboration under the partnership agreement with consultations on regional developments. Both nations reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining close bilateral coordination across economic, developmental, and regional spheres.
