BEIJING, CHINA / RankWire.AI / – In the initial six months of 2026, China’s digital industry amassed a revenue of 20.71 trillion yuan, marking a 13.6% increase compared to the previous year. Profits surged by 19.3%, reaching 1.79 trillion yuan. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology noted that the sector’s revenue growth rate accelerated by 4.1 percentage points from the same period last year. The profit margin for the industry stood at 8.6%, reflecting an increase of 0.7 percentage point.

The majority of this revenue was generated by China’s top digital hubs. The top 10 provincial-level markets produced a combined total of 17.21 trillion yuan, a rise of 13.2%. These regions accounted for 83.1% of the national digital industry revenue and contributed 87% to the overall revenue growth. Among these major markets were Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhejiang. Central China’s digital industry revenue reached 2.86 trillion yuan, which is a 28.3% increase from the previous year.
During this period, digital infrastructure also saw significant expansion. By the end of June, China had established 5.102 million 5G base stations. The country also boasted 32.86 million 10G PON ports capable of supporting gigabit network services. The number of 5G RedCap base stations reached 2.247 million. Additionally, intelligent computing capacity climbed to 2,185 EFLOPS using FP16 measurement, representing a 177% increase year-over-year. The overall utilization rate of computing facilities stood at 71.4%.
Digital infrastructure expands across China
China had built 52 intelligent computing facilities with deployments exceeding 10,000 accelerator cards by the end of June. Over 80,000 private 5G industry networks were operational nationwide. Applications leveraging 5G and gigabit optical networks spanned 94 major sectors of the economy. The country also reported more than 26,000 active 5G and industrial internet projects, with authorities noting that 1,260 classified 5G factories had been established across the nation.
Manufacturing in the digital realm experienced faster growth in both production and earnings during the first half. The electronics industry’s value-added output increased by 14.8% from a year earlier. Revenue at leading electronic information manufacturers reached 12.15 trillion yuan, up 17.8%. Their combined profit rose 66% to 703.6 billion yuan. Key contributors to this profit increase included integrated circuits, computer manufacturing, and specialized electronic materials. Electronics output growth surpassed the overall industrial growth rate by 9.4 percentage points.
Software and IT services sustain upward trend
The digital services sector in China continued to expand during the first half of 2026. The total telecommunications business volume increased by 8.3% at constant prices compared to the same period last year. Revenue from software and information technology services grew by 9.5%. Specifically, software product revenue increased by 6.9%, while IT services revenue rose by 10.4%. Major internet firms reported a 10.1% increase in revenue and a 16.6% rise in total profit compared to the same period in 2025.
These positive figures in the digital industry occurred alongside continued growth in technology-related services, which outpaced the broader economy. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s economy expanded by 4.7% in the first half of 2026. The sectors of information transmission, software, and information technology services experienced a 10.7% increase in value added during this period. The country’s digital economy encompasses electronic information manufacturing, telecommunications, software and IT services, and internet-based services, forming a core part of its broader digital development.
