BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – A series of high-level discussions in Berlin has strengthened the bilateral ties between the UAE and Germany, emphasizing a shared commitment to deepening cooperation across economic, security, and diplomatic domains. The meetings coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11, underscoring the importance of this renewed partnership.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin on Thursday. Their discussions concentrated on enhancing UAE-Germany collaboration in economic and developmental sectors, while also addressing regional and global issues, diplomacy, peace, and international security. This engagement aligned with the ongoing state visit of President Sheikh Mohamed to Germany from September 9 to 11.

The two ministers explored avenues to broaden the strategic alliance and foster cooperation across multiple areas. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the strength and resilience of the UAE-Germany relationship, stressing ongoing progress and development. He also reiterated a shared dedication to building on previous successes and promoting sustainable economic growth. During the talks, Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah exchanged perspectives on mutual interests and approaches to crisis resolution through diplomatic means.

The state visit added a new dimension to the bilateral relationship. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and they announced the launch of a new Strategic Dialogue. This forum aims to cover areas including security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transportation, environment, culture, and education.

Expansion of bilateral ties through strategic dialogue

Both nations agreed to establish a German-UAE Investment Council to foster greater engagement between the public and private sectors. They welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. According to the joint declaration, the visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros. Additionally, a UAE investment package worth 40 billion euros in Germany was announced as part of the overall commitments.

Economic collaboration also encompasses energy initiatives, advanced technological development, and digital infrastructure projects. The joint declaration highlighted ongoing and planned efforts involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency measures. It also outlined plans for building advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Both sides also identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as key areas of their broader cooperation.

Diplomatic efforts and regional stability topics

During their Berlin discussions, the foreign ministers reviewed regional and international developments. Their focus was on strengthening global efforts to promote enduring peace and stability, as well as safeguarding international security. They emphasized diplomacy as a means to resolve crises, aligning with themes discussed during the state visit. The German government had also prioritized Middle East peace and stability among the agenda items for the leaders’ meetings.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, attended the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul, further integrating foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development within the bilateral framework. The state visit also linked these discussions to formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific collaboration. These Berlin meetings mark the latest in a series of official engagements within the UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2004.
